What AI will do for us

There are very different opinions on how good of an achievement AI is for humanity. It ranges from people saying it will some day vanish to others believing no person on earth will ever have to work again. Here's what I believe.

LLM

When people talk about AI they often happen to talk only about a portion of AI it being Large Language Models (LLM). That's understandable because other fields of AI are being developed as we speak and also look quite promising. But just looking at the LLM part for now. Spoken or written interaction is both interesting and astonishing at the same time. Some times one wonder what the actual fuck is that AI now talking about, as it sometimes phantasizes. On the other hand we get amazed about how precise and extensive some answers are.

Pre and Post AI timeline

It looks like those who train those language models are eager for this so called big data so they have something to train their model iterations with. I'm assuming that pretty much every line of text from the internet will somehow be scraped as the idea seems to be: The bigger the data, the better. I also assume that the amount of text on the internet - especially in blogs and social media - that was originally created by any LLM will grow over time significantly. I have been thinking about what effect that can or will have on the quality of the next model iterations. Will it be more like: Garbage in Garbage out? My first thought was more pessimistic on this but now I would argue it could actually lead to improving the overall content of the internet texts in generall. If this would be the case, the then grown quality should again alter the quality of the afterwards coming language models again and again. Time will tell but if I was to overlooking the training of those language models I would wish for a marker on this big data about what data is human in origin or AI.

Heading back at the original question. What will AI be able to do for us. Let's assume that quality and usability of the solutions on top on AI will at least keep quality and have no decline. This alone would help us do things that would not have been possible before. The question arises of how we make use of AI. There are some people maybe thinking: AI could take over all the data that people do. On the other hand there are people that keep doing what they have done before in Information Technology. The only thing they want to change is hook AI solutions at specific positions of their code. I would say this is already happening big time. Existing software solutions like paperless-ngx now come with multiple addons that leverage AI.
